Brazil: Rhythmic Architecture
Brazil functions as a continent of sound. The musical output of the country results from centuries of overlap between Portuguese melodic structures, West African percussion, and Indigenous tonal systems. While the world often associates Brazil with a single tempo, the reality is a complex map of regional specialties. You find the baroque-influenced strings of Minas Gerais, the frantic frevo of Recife, and the sophisticated bossa nova of Rio de Janeiro.
We view Brazil as a collection of acoustic neighborhoods. Our work here focuses on the technical mastery of the performers and the social history behind the genres. We move past the commercial stages to find where the music actually lives.
